What should I expect during my first visit?

Before scheduling your appointment, here’s what you need to know about your first visit. If you have questions or need support, our team is always here to help.

  • Warm welcome and paperwork: Upon arrival, our friendly team will greet you and assist you in completing the necessary paperwork. This includes your medical history, any current medications, and dental concerns. Don’t worry! We’ll guide you through every form and make the process easy. Due to paperwork, please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. However, you can save valuable time by filling out our New Patient Forms before your visit.
  • Comprehensive dental exam: Your first visit includes a thorough dental exam. Our dentist will inspect your teeth, gums, and mouth for signs of cavities, gum disease, or teeth grinding (bruxism). This exam also includes inspecting your fillings, crowns, implants, and existing dental work to assess their condition, and the use of intraoral cameras to examine hard-to-reach areas of the mouth.
  • TMJ analysis: The health of your jaw joints and muscles is crucial for your optimal function and comfort. We always evaluate your jaw joints and surrounding musculature to detect signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Many patients are surprised to discover their constant jaw pain and headaches have something to do with their jaw joints (TMJs).
  • Dental X-rays: If you had dental X-rays in the past six months, you can carry them with you. If you don’t have them, don’t worry. We’ll have them taken at our office. Dental X-rays allow us to detect problems early, even those that may not be visible to the naked eye.
  • Discuss findings: After the exam, your Lisle dentist will review your results with you. We’ll explain any findings in simple, easy-to-understand language. This is also your chance to ask questions about your oral health, treatment options, or even cosmetic concerns. Our goal is to ensure you know where your smile stands and what steps, if any, need to be taken.

If treatment is needed, we’ll create a customized plan tailored to your needs. This may include preventive care, such as cleanings, restorative treatments like fillings or crowns, or cosmetic options to enhance your smile.
