Orofacial myofunctional therapy is a treatment approach that uses specific exercises to train the muscles of the mouth, face, and tongue. This therapy supports proper function, including breathing, swallowing, and speaking. It is like physical therapy for your mouth and face!
Children and adults alike can benefit from this therapy. It is especially helpful for individuals who experience tongue thrusting, mouth breathing, speech difficulties, sleep disorders, or orthodontic relapse. Dr. Daniela Brzozowski works to personalize treatment plans to address each patientโs unique needs.
Common signs that you may need a myofunctional dentist include chronic mouth breathing, difficulty chewing or swallowing, thumb sucking habits, speech impediments, or frequent orthodontic issues. If you or your child face any of these challenges, a consultation with a myofunctional dentist in Lisle, Illinois, can help identify the root cause.
Myofunctional issues such as improper tongue posture or mouth breathing can contribute to sleep-disordered breathing, including snoring or obstructive sleep apnea. By improving oral and airway function through orofacial myofunctional therapy, patients can experience better, more restful sleep.
No, orofacial myofunctional therapy is not painful. It often involves simple, gentle exercises that feel natural over time. These exercises are designed to strengthen the oral and facial muscles in a way that promotes better function and overall health.
